Fine Art & Portraits

A Life in Art in Words (and Pictures)

Setting Expectations (art & other stuff)

There are big changes afoot in my life and in my art. And while the minutiae of my personal life may hold a few people’s interest, the latest updates about my art, musings on the practice of art, and thoughts on the business might have some value for other artists and art lovers.

That’s what this blog is going to be about. Mostly. I intend to post some kind of update every day for the next few weeks. We will all see together where the cadence goes from there. I want this blog/public art journal to have actual value to folks who had previously followed me on that Meta site, and it turns out those folks were interacting with my Instagram account in a lot of different ways. With that in mind, the posts here will probably focus on:

  • Works in progress

  • My art process

  • Art studio updates

  • Advice and encouragement for newer artists

  • Thoughts about art in general

  • Updates on my life

  • Other stuff that may seem relevant

It would be naive to try predicting exactly how this thing’ll develop over time, but rest assured it will be art-focused. Mostly, anyway.

So, in that spirit, the majority of posts will be about art and will be tagged “Art”, while those that are about other stuff will be tagged “Other Stuff”. We might as well keep it as straightforward as possible. Don’t expect any other tags to be used. At this point, my business is a one-man show, and my interests are in making art and writing, not managing a bunch of categories that only a fraction of readers will ever use.

I do want to hear from you, but I will not be enabling comments. This is for the same reason as the tag thing. Reading and moderating a comments section would actually be quite fun. However, it would absorb huge amounts of time that would be better spent painting. Or thinking about painting. Or sleeping. Really any number of other things would be a better use of my time, at least to me. So, if you have questions or comments, there is already an easy form on the “Contact” page. I’ll respond to really good questions and comments here in the blog.

That’s it for now. The next post will be a lot more engaging, I promise.
